Preparation
The surface preparation is
where we place the most emphasis and, when done correctly, is the key to a
long lasting paint job. We spend the majority of our time on the prep and
never rush or cut corners.
To give an example of some of the steps we take, we begin by “taping and
draping”, that is to carefully protect all surfaces not to be painted from
any splatter. This includes all interior and exterior furnishings, floors,
landscaping and fixtures. For exterior paint jobs, we then do a thorough
powerwash of the exterior surfaces, including sidewalks, stairs and
driveways. Anywhere that has a build up of dirt or mildew. The building is
washed with a mixture of bleach and water and delivered through a high
pressure hose. Thoroughly powerwashing the surface will not only clean the
surface, but also inhibit future mildew and chalking which is important in
fog zones.
Any job we do is always thoroughly waterproofed by calking and reglazing
windows and joints around trims and doors, and by patching any cracks in
wood, stucco or concrete with Spackle, Bondo or Flexible Elastomeric
Patching compounds. Loose boards are nailed in and rust inhibitive primer is
placed over all nail heads and metals to prevent rust from forming seeping
through. Buildings are completely scraped, sanded and all peeling paint is
removed, using lead-safe methods, before primers are used.
We also take the same great care in patching, scraping and sanding interiors
smooth before priming. These meticulous steps insure that the finish is
clean, smooth perfection that will last.
